A Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player has discovered an unlikely Happy Gilmore Easter egg after unlocking a new gun charm. The latest Call of Duty title is full of secrets and surprising revelations, some of which can even affect gameplay.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a surprising Happy Gilmore Easter egg in the form of a rare gun charm, as discovered by Reddit user wpm_turtles13. The charm in question looks like an alligator head while its description reads, “Get revenge for Chubbs with the Gator Head Charm.” This an obvious, and very sweet hint at Adam Sandler’s iconic movie Happy Gilmore. In it, Sandler portrays an ice hockey player who suddenly finds himself as a natural golfer. Chubbs Peterson, played by Carl Weathers, acts as Happy’s mentor who was forced to retire from golf early due to a severe injury. He had his hand bitten off by an alligator, and this particular accident is referenced in Black Ops Cold War’s unexpected Easter egg. Basically, players have gotten revenge for Chubbs’ hand by turning the predatory gator into a harmless gun charm.”
Happy Gilmore is among those iconic movies that turn into pop-culture phenomenon over time, and honoring the motion picture in a video game is a brilliant way to appeal to the community. While not many modern shooting games will put effort into gun charms, Call of Duty Cold War stands out immensely with their smart approach. This is the type of cosmetic that players deserve.
